Spark Book Review & Poem Snippets (ft. a farm girls life)

Hey guys! Ahhh, I’m so excited to announce that my friend Allison has published another poem book, and oh my word, it’s just SO GOOD! Seriously! For today’s post I’ll be reviewing the book and giving a few aesthetic poem snippets. I’m also excited to announce a super exciting giveaway featuring fuzzy socks AND fairy lights…

Eep, is the cover just SO AESTHETIC!? I mean that is pure talent right there. 😁

Alright, now that I’ve flailed over the cover some more, let’s talk about the book itself. And I’ll share some poem snippets, you know, to get you interested. 😉

I honestly usually don’t like poetry very much. So why am I reviewing a poetry book? Because this books poems are different. Allison captures real and relatable feelings in her poetry. Which is one of the reason I enjoy it so much. 🙂

// poem snippets //

you know the glorious moment when that terrible task looming ahead of you just vanishes from you mind, and you can’t remember what you were about to do for the life of you? – forgotten

i’m hanging from the edge of this cliff; the bridge to the other side is crumbling before me. Lord, do i need this plot twist? maybe mine isn’t much of a story, but it hurts to let go, you know. it’s breaking my heart, Lord. are you breaking my heart, Lord? my wonderful, perfect Author, i know you write the best stories. – cliffhanging

purple – the air is cool and moist with the promise of dew, but it carries a last, golden warmth in it’s hands – blind colors

yellow – there it is again, the perfect square of sunlight streaming through the window and covering the floor like a welcome mat – blind colors

orange – a restless fire burns the soft bits of clouds from the sky, flames licking farther and farther until the mountain waves wash them out – blind colors

juice running all over the counter; sticky fingers, sticky pans, steaming pots of fragrant apples boiling on the stove, filing the kitchen with whispered sweetness that temps the tongue – applesauce

i resolve never to lose my wonder – spark

some seeds can’t grow without a fire. burn the face of my soul clean now. grow beauty from these embers. – wildfire

just a reminder that no one has it all together. the people who seem most like they do might just need the most love. – the brave ones

it weaves a sticky web around anything it touches, one lick and you’re trapped: back for some more – marshmallow

we quickly grow bored when surrounded by things, but when all else is gone, ideas take wing – the cure for boredom

  4. Oh I loved all those poem snippets! Especially End and Marshmallow! 😛
I love to read! (My blog is about books, after all. XD ) And when I do I usually drink mochas, hot chocolate, and sometimes tea. My favorites are chai or sweet and spicy tea from Good Earth. 😛 And I don’t snack a lot, but goldfish crackers, popcorn and cookies are some good reading snacks! 😀

  5. Oooooh, the snippers are so, so good! I don’t usually eat or drink when I read because I’m terrified of spilling something, but graham crackers are nice, except for the crumbs they get in the pages. XD

  6. I really enjoyed reading your post…why? I am not a *huge* fan of poetry either, but this made me think Allison’s book must truly be very wonderful if even someone who doesn’t care for poetry in general likes her book. 🙂 This book looks amazing!!! My favorite drink/snack with reading? Hmm…I like peppermint or Bigelow’s sleep tea (https://www.amazon.com/Bigelow-Benefits-Chamomile-Lavender-Herbal/dp/B01MAWGPKS/ref=asc_df_B01MAWGPKS/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=312193689298&hvpos=1o2&hvnetw=g&hvrand=18045771942743838430&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9007350&hvtargid=aud-829758849484:pla-570139904356&psc=1) YUM! 😉 IT’S THE BEST TEA EVER, REALLY!! 🙂

  8. I love the cover so much! In winter, my favorite drinks to read with are coffee, chai tea, or dandelion root tea. In summer, nothing beats a cup of ice water. I can’t wait to read Spark!

  9. Hannah,
I really liked the poem snippets you shared – especially the ones from Cliffhanging, Applesauce, and The Cure for Boredom! My favorite reading snack would possibly be pretzels because they are crunchy, yummy, and they don’t get your fingers messy so that you feel like you can’t touch your book 🙂 My favorite reading drink would be Mamma’s special coffee or hot chocolate. Or tea. That’s kind of everything though XD I enjoyed reading your thoughts about Spark!
